The Lines Are Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='e-content'>I&#8217;ve been asked how I patched <a rel=\"tag\" class=\"hashtag u-tag u-category\" href=\"https:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/?tag=ds106radio\">#ds106radio<\/a> 1-888 phonecalls \/LIVE into my <a href=\"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/?p=1065\" target=\"_blank\">Going Back to New York City<\/a> show last week.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the scoop.<\/p>\n<p>I used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rogueamoeba.com\/nicecast\/\" target=\"_blank\">NiceCast<\/a> with 2 Application Mixers: 1 for a media player, 1 for a VoIP application &#8211; in my case <a href=\"http:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/telephone\/id406825478?mt=12\" target=\"_blank\">Telephone<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I hijacked both applications with the mixers and faded both to the hijacked Application as per below.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/ds106radio-using-pbx.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1114 alignnone\" title=\"ds106radio-using-pbx\" src=\"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/ds106radio-using-pbx.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"368\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I then set my Telephone application to use a the Line-In input so this application wouldn&#8217;t pick up my voice.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/telephone_mute.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1130 alignnone\" title=\"telephone_mute\" src=\"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/telephone_mute-300x225.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/telephone_mute-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/telephone_mute.png 504w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Capturing audio from the desktop VoIP application only captures the received call &#8211; not my outgoing voice in the phone conversation.\u00a0 To capture my received calls with my voice I need to use another VoIP application to call the PBX &#8211; that way both my audio and callers&#8217; audio got patched into the live feed with no delays in our conversation.\u00a0 I have had good luck with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.linphone.org\/eng\/download\/packages\/linphone.html\" target=\"_blank\">Linphone<\/a> on both my laptop and my mobile.<\/p>\n<p>During the Going Back to New York show I used my mobile with Linphone installed to call the PBX &#8211; I muted the mic and activated the speakerphone so I could hear when people called in while I was playing music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1115 alignnone\" title=\"photo\" src=\"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"660\" srcset=\"https:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo.png 640w, https:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/photo-200x300.png 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 440px) 100vw, 440px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When I was playing music I used the media player Application Mixer to move between music and my Source (my mic) &#8211; as per usual &#8211; all the while keeping the Application Mixer with Telephone bypassed.\u00a0 When I heard someone call in on my mobile I:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>unmuted my mic on Linphone on my mobile to say hello<\/li>\n<li>deselected the bypass switch on the Telephone Application Mixer on NiceCast<\/li>\n<li>faded out my music on the media player &amp; stopped the music &#8211; keeping the media player Application Mixer to &#8216;Application&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>welcomed the caller to #d106radio<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1KtG6ZhCwea5R0M3t59T3e67Ky0Zcujqd2b3LTuEbaCM\/edit\" target=\"_blank\">#ds106radio has a 1-888 call-in number<\/a> you can swap out using a VoIP application and simply use a telephone &#8211; just like radio stations of old.\u00a0 A telephone with a speakerphone would likely work best &#8211; hands free.<\/p>\n<p>When you are ready to play some music &#8211; just press play on your media player &#8211; fade in your audio &#8211; and bypass the Telephone application on the Application Mixer.<\/p>\n<p>Although lots of <a rel=\"tag\" class=\"hashtag u-tag u-category\" href=\"https:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/?tag=ds106radio\">#ds106radio<\/a> folk use Skype to great affect, I like that the PBX can keep an open line to the station with or without a \/LIVE DJ.<\/p>\n<p>Call me at the station &#8211;
