{"id":1429,"date":"2012-12-12T00:53:11","date_gmt":"2012-12-12T00:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/?p=1429"},"modified":"2012-12-15T00:15:11","modified_gmt":"2012-12-15T00:15:11","slug":"1429","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/networkeffects.ca\/?p=1429","title":{"rendered":"World On a Wire"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='e-content'>Based on the scifi novel <a href=\"http:\/\/ebookbrowse.com\/daniel-galouye-simulacron-3-pdf-d206675873\" target=\"_blank\">Simulacron-3<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fassbinder\" target=\"_blank\">Fassbinder&#8217;s<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Welt_am_Draht\" target=\"_blank\">World on a Wire<\/a>, originally shot as a miniseries for television in 1973, was reissued to a feature length in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>This is a brilliant piece of science fiction with simulation, virtual reality, and existentialism all bundled in together. What I loved about this film is how Fassbinder considered technology and simulation as neither utopian nor distopia (a common pitfall of many contemporary scifi flicks) &#8211; but envisioned simulations as a dreamland where human consciousness traverses past, present and future.<\/p>\n<p>The cinematography is brillant and provoked me to watch for &#8220;gif&#8217;able&#8221; scenes &#8211; so I start my 3-part <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">World On A Wire<\/span> GIF series with 2 scenes.<\/p>\n<p><em>G\u00fcnther Lause, the security adviser of the institute overseeing the Simulacron, suddenly disappears. Fred Stiller, the Director of Technology, is the only person who remembers he existed &#8211; none of his colleagues appear to remember who G\u00fcnther Lause is at all. \u00a0Fred Stiller even asks the Simulacron &#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/dl.dropbox.com\/u\/2251996\/WorldonaWire_WhoIsGeuntherLause.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Fred Stiller enters the Simulacron to take a look around.
