McLuhan and Cronenberg made of the same mold in my mind, Cronenberg is just a bit more surgical—but he has to be my favorite Canadian bar all you maniacs.
BTW, listened to the audio, and I love that he made a Don Delillo novel into a movie, now there is a great combination. Plus I love his whole back and forth with the interviewer about meaning versus plot description. Brilliant stuff, TRENCHANT! as he is fond of saying.
One more thing, I just watched Rabid again the other night after about twenty years, and his casting of Marilyn Chambers in that role (which was actually Ivan Reitman’s idea) was brilliant. That film is so very much of our moment. Just like Shivers, in many ways a remaking of Shivers with out all the pool party sex. Contagion is pretty much a rehashing of Cronenberg’s work from the 70s.
