School of Rock

Photo by whoshotya @ FlickrThe latest CBC Radio3 podcast entitled School of Rock profiles some teachers using music in their instruction to creative and innovative ends. Listening to some of the triumphs and horror stories from students and teachers in public school music programs I was reminded of how much fun I had completely rocking out in my music classroom in Aklavik. A full drum kit, 2 electric guitars, an electric bass and amps were a permanent installation in my classroom. Apart from class, lunchtime and after school students congregated in my classroom to share music and ideas.

Hopefully when I manage to unpack my worldly possessions, I will be able to uncover the CDs of music we produced and sold at the end of the school years.
