Massive Injection to Vinyl Collection

Was talking to a colleague at work about music and mentioned that I have all of my vinyl collection still in storage in Vancouver.  He said that he was also a collector of both vinyl and audio equipment and would be happy to sell me a vintage turntable, amp, and speaker setup for a great price – not to mention some of his duplicates.

I droppped by his house this morning to pick up the audio equipment and to my surprise he had 5 moving boxes FULL of great records.  I won’t tell you how much I spent on the the whole package but I will tell you that I feel that I made out like a bandit.

I am getting a huge thrill this afternoon exploring the newly acquired archive and reveling in the analog sound.  Now for some additional basement storage shelving and to start making some short term plans for shipping the rest of my collection to British Columbia from Nova Scotia.

Duane Eddy? Chet Atkins? Wow, there is some gold in them thar hills!

Oh man, I need to get a stereo again. I’ve got 400+ albums sitting in a storage locker in my basement. Seeing stuff like this inspires me.

Holy cow – you definitely need to dig those out. It has been nearly 10 years since I owned a turntable and I had forgotten how much I loved the sound and how the audio is so much different in timbre and tone from the CD and Mp3s I have been listening to so much lately.

I have pulled about 45 out of this acquisition that I plan on trading at Meow Records in Prince George. They have some choice vinyl and I am hoping I can get a decent swap deal with them – trade in some of the Chicago and Three Dog Night I will never listen to for a Pere Ubu or some class Canadian punk. I bought Diodes, Teenage Head, and a copy of Slow’s – Against the Glass there a few months back … not to mention a shrinkwapped 45 of StarWars with the book for my son. Choice.

Wow. Nice find dude. I have to say, that I’ve been giving vinyl a LOT of thought recently. I’ve really gotten sick of the crappy sound of mp3’s of late… I have a very modest collection of vinyl, but there is a lot out there to be had. I’m thinking you found a bit of a mother load to say the least. Anyway, good on ya Grant.

    Hey Kev,

I have a couple items I know you would enjoy – Springsteen’s – The River .. in great shape with album inserts to boot. I was out today looking for storage options – didn’t find anything suitable so it looks like an Ikea order – an I think I found just the trick: Idea Expedit
