Politics & Economics

“Technical and scientific training need not be inimical to humanistic education as long as science and technology in the revolutionary society are at the service of permanent liberation of humanization…” ~ Paulo Freire H/T: https://2ndbreakfast.audreywatters.com/ai-literacy-and-the-pedagogy-of-the-oppressor-2/

“I have a hunch it’ll help you develop precisely the resilience we’re going to need in order to navigate a world that feels ever more beyond our control, and where every day brings destabilising headlines. In this sort of environment, the capacity to act without certainty is essential even just to get through the day, never mind if you’d also like to have an impact on things.” https://ckarchive.com/b/wvu2hghk5m82zf9r552rqtn34kzxxc8

“Finland’s achievements illustrate the benefits of integration, balance and continuity in policies to tackle homelessness, integration across housing and social assistance programmes, balance between demand and supply, and political continuity over time have helped to maximise the results of the country’s investment to end homelessness.” https://oecdecoscope.blog/2021/12/13/finlands-zero-homeless-strategy-lessons-from-a-success-story/

“In many ways, Amway adherents embraced a fusion of conspiratorial thinking and populism that would remain a central thread of America’s political story.” https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2025/01/amway-america/681479/?gift=j9r7avb6p-KY8zdjhsiSZxYkntna5M_rYEv4707Zqqs

Answering The Call

Way back in May 2023 I was inspired by conversations at #reclaimopen to spend more time with NetworkEffects and at least make a weekly update commitment to practice what I preach.

With further inspiration from Darcy Norman’s Weekly Reflections and Tom Woodward’s Weekly Web Harvests I took a run at noting my weekly reading and rambling with my Href Weekly posts throughout 2023 and 2024. Those weekly posts are a mix of media and bits of reading – most of which I posted to https://mastodon.social/@grantpotter.

I managed to post fairly regularly in 2023, but had to retroactively post many 2024 bits over the last few days (apologies Reclaim blog-posts-rss channel!) to answer the call of Bloggers Anonymous and rescue my lagging commitment to NetworkEffects.
